Building a statewide movement for daily outdoor learning.
The New Mexico Outdoor Learning Collective brings together outdoor leaders committed to making outdoor learning an everyday part of education.
Together, we’re identifying barriers, sharing solutions, connecting resources, and building the systems needed so every child in New Mexico has access to meaningful outdoor learning.
Why We Meet
Outdoor learning is already happening across New Mexico—but too often, educators, individuals, and organizations work in isolation.
The Collective exists to connect people, align efforts, share resources, and build a common vision so outdoor learning becomes a normal part of every student’s educational experience.
Our Shared Priorities
Normalizing Outdoor Learning
Helping outdoor learning become part of everyday teaching rather than an occasional activity.
Building Teacher Confidence & Readiness
Supporting educators with professional learning, practical tools, mentorship, and examples.
Systems-Level Support & Permission
Working with school leaders, districts, and agencies to create supportive policies and leadership.
Infrastructure & Conditions for Success
Exploring outdoor classrooms, funding, materials, maintenance, transportation, and community partnerships.
Academic Legitimacy & Value
Sharing research and evidence that outdoor learning supports student learning and well-being.
Equity & Access
Ensuring every student—regardless of school or community—has opportunities to learn outdoors.
Statewide Resource Mapping Initiative
This is a living collection of resources contributed by members of the New Mexico Outdoor Learning Collective. As our network grows, so will the knowledge, tools, and examples available to educators across the state.
